This is a look back at 2015 and the most popular recipes on our blog over the last 12 months. Thank you all for checking them out - we hope you enjoyed those that you tried. The recipes are listed in ascending order of popularity, with Lamb Kleftiko being the No.1.

How many of these did you try this year - and how many are you going to try in 2016?



25Bougatsa 

Bougatsa is a delicious sweet. People often buy these from small shops on the street and eat them as they are walking. The quality in these shops varies, as you can imagine, but this recipe will produce a tasty pastry and delicious filling.



24Avgolemono Soup 

Avgolemono is a Greek egg and lemon juice mixture - avgo meaning egg and lemoni meaning lemon. The soup is made with this juice added to chicken and rice and, as well as being tasty, is also very healthy.

Peinirli is a boat-shaped bread with a buttery-cheese filling, though meat can also be added.






There are many types of spinach pie - spanakopita - in Greece. This is a traditional recipe which can be eaten as a side dish or is a very tasty and nutritious snack by itself.




These tasty fritters are very easy to prepare and can be served as one of several side dishes - they go nicely with Tzatziki (No.2 on this list) - or as a light snack on their own.




A lovely warm, nutritious dish - just the thing on cold winter days! Although it's not a 'last-minute' dish - you have to soak the chickpeas overnight - it's very simple and cheap. Especially popular in the villages.

This delicious dish can be eaten at any time, but is especially associated with Clean Monday, when Lent begins before Easter.

Smooth and tangy. This is traditionally made with Greek strained yoghurt A side dish which can be served with any meat, fish or vegetable dish.





Classic Greek meatballs are called Keftedes and Keftedakia are a smaller version of them. They can be eaten as a snack, as a meze with ouzo and/or beer or just as part of a buffet meal. Children love these! And they are easy and quick to prepare!


14Briam

Another easily prepared dish, suitable for vegetarians. This can be eaten hot or cold and is delicious when accompanied by a large slice of Feta cheese.




Moussaka is a "classic" Greek dish, but Vegetarian Moussaka is not quite as well-known. However, many people who are not vegetarian have said that they actually prefer it to the "normal" moussaka, which is made with meat and not mushrooms.



These are really delicious, especially if you use nice soft cabbage leaves. If you are vegetarian or don't like mincemeat, then it can also be eaten without the mincemeat.




This is a traditional spicy cheese dish, which can be served as a meze with ouzo or beer, or as a dip. It is quick and easy to make.





This is a cheese pie which is incredibly easy to prepare and is unbelievably light. Delicious, and - very important - kids love it! 





Another easy to make recipe. It's a delicious lunchtime meal, especially when accompanied by a slice of Feta cheese.





This is a popular dish in Greece and quite easy to prepare. It is usually made with lamb, but you can use other meat if you so prefer.





This is a simple and extremely popular dish - some people say that this, in fact, is the real Greek national dish! Ideally eaten with fresh bread and olives.





This is a very popular dish in the summer. Although stuffed peppers and tomatoes are well enough known, usually we also have stuffed eggplant and zucchini. They are accompanied by potatoes and can also be accompanied by Feta cheese.


5Pastichio

Well, this dish is one of a lot of people's favourites. It's certainly a favourite recipe with the kids - young and old! If you make this for your youngsters, you shouldn't have any problem with them eating their food!


4Souvlaki

This can be eaten as a snack or as a filling lunch or supper. It's also very popular with the kids!







Another "classic" Greek dish. Dolmades can be eaten as a meze with ouzo or as a side dish. They can also be accompanied by Greek strained yoghurt as a tasty little snack on its own. 



2Tzatziki

Tzatziki is a wonderfully simple and tasty side dish which can accompany a range of meat and vegetable dishes.





And the most popular dish in 2015 is Lamb Kleftiko, a delicious and very popular roast lamb dish. It is prepared in small 'packages' as you can see in the photo.
